The code term for anything which is a "potentially disastrous threat" to the United States is an "enemy of the state". Different people have identified these enemies of the state, including politicians, military, FBI, and public speakers. It is interesting that America has so many enemies. Isn't it the most powerful, most friendly nation on earth? Why do we have these enemies?
Your assignment is to research an enemy of the United States and create a web page FBI file which examines why they are an enemy. Your web page will actually have 2 different pages: 1) a bio, and 2) an assessment. A bio needs to include:
- Who the enemy is (NAME)
- The job title or aliases of the enemy (ALIAS/JOB)
- A description of that person, place, or thing (DESCRIPTION)
- According to whom are they the enemy? (ACCUSER)
- Specifically, what have theydone to become our enemy? Where and when did this "perpetration" occur? This needs to be in detail, with links to other web sites you can use in your presentation. (CRIMINAL ACTIVITY)
- A summary of why they are considered "a potentially disastrous threat" and what America has planned to do to eliminate them as an enemy (BOTTOM LINE)
- A picture of the enemy or two
The Agent Assessment page will examine your own opinions of the case against your chosen "enemy of the state". For this page, you will need to address the following questions with answers and reasoned arguments:
- Are they simlar to any other enemies the United States has had in history? (The answer will almost always be "yes") How so? (SIMILAR CASES)
- What does the United States look like without that enemy? (Or, what would the United States look like without that enemy?) Did that enemy have an effect on the US way of life after they were eliminated (or, if they were eliminated), or does the problem still exist? (ELIMINATION)
- Are they truly an enemy, or do they cover up a personal weakness? (SCAPEGOAT?)
- Most importantly, does the United States need them as an enemy? At first, you might think that the US needs no enemies, but think again. What does the fact that they are an enemy bring to the US? In what way do we need them as an enemy? (OVERALL VALUE)
On your web page, you will provide the answers to these questions as well as links to websites which illustrate your bio answers (This will be your evidence). You then will be giving a 5-10 minute presentation on your "enemy of the state", leading us through the web page and links as you answer the questions for us.
Points: WebPage - 65 points, Presentation - 20 pts., Exam - 15 pts.
